You're standing at Longues-Sur-Mer, in front of the battery, staring down a 150 mm navy gun German soldiers planned to use to fire at incoming landing craft as part of the Atlantic Wall — the Nazis coastal defense system.
In the distance, you can hear seagulls and waves crashing on the beaches of Normandy. A French-accented voice asks if you want to proceed to the lookout bunker where the artillery was directed.

3. Students brace for big losses as boards prepare to slash budgets
|
|
|
thestar.com, June 18, 2019 |

An environmental leadership program that is “magical.” A music program that fills students with “one of the most amazing feelings.” And a theatre technician who is “vital” to a school.
Those are some of the programs — and staff — on the chopping block as school boards vote on their budgets for the next academic year. Provincial funding cuts by Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives mean that boards, facing multimillion-dollar budget shortfalls, must cut and reduce programs and services. Also, provincial changes to high school class size averages — they will grow from 22 to 28 students over four years — will mean fewer teachers, fewer course selections and less one-on-one time between students and educators.

In March 2019, the Government of Ontario unveiled its vision for education through a policy entitled
Education that Works for You – Modernizing Classrooms. From an e-learning perspective, the proposed policy called for a centralization of e-learning courses and a graduation requirement that students take a minimum of four e-learning courses beginning with the 2020-21 school year. Either as a part of, in conjunction with, or simply at the same time, the Government also engaged in a public consultation around class sizes that would increase the class size limit for face-to-face courses to 28 students and increase the limit for e-learning courses to 35 students. The goal of this report is to examine the literature related to e-learning class size in Canada and internationally.

An estimated 5,000 Prince Edward Island workers to benefit
GATINEAU, QC, June 20, 2019 /CNW/ - As innovation and technology continue to change how we live and work, Canadian workers are met with new challenges and opportunities. Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Canada's Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, and the Honourable Brad Trivers, Prince Edward Island's Minister of Education and Lifelong Learning, announced that the two governments have signed agreements that will see Canada provide the Prince Edward Island government with approximately $200 million over six years to invest in Prince Edward Island's workers. |
