The BIT19 (ECOO) Conference Celebrating 40 Years Strong |
|
|
Hard to believe my first BIT (ECOO) conference was in 1998 when I launched Kevin O'Leary's TLC School division in Canada. You may recall as a student (or parent) Reader Rabbit, Kid Pix and Zoombinis, some of our top products.
Fast forward 20 years, amazingly, I had the good fortune of connecting with some of the vary same people I first met during the early years of ECOO (BIT). The likes of Doug Peterson, Harry Neizen, Brenda Sherry and Peter Skillen, who became my friends, colleagues and mentors, and an important part of my PLN. BIT is really about people and community which is why I encourage new teacher leaders to take advantage of the FREE ECOO membership.
Despite the labour strife in Ontario, the engagement and enthusiasm was high and the conversations where rich. Equally important, no doubt was the social and informal learning that took place around the conference.
Congrats to the BIT19 conference organizing team in hosting a memorable 40th Anniversary conference!

With 25 Days to go, I've got the Canadian EdTech Summit to of mind. Surprisingly, I've been asked on a number of occasions, why Vancouver? Given the 10th anniversary special celebration, I wanted to 'walk the digital talk' and demonstrate our desire to showcase other regions of the country. Having been out in Vancouver for C21 Summits twice this past year, I was inspired by many of the innovations in education and design thinking that would be highly beneficial to conference goes to explore. the newly built Centennial Secondary School is truly a showpiece and reflects a 'Future Ready' school. |

A sneak peek at the fabulous Centennial Secondary School Learning Commons where vendor partners will be showcasing their wares in the Makerspace.
Below is an exterior view of Centennial S.S. that was incidentally rebuilt and not a new build. This was due to the fact that it was not originally designed to be earthquake ready. |
