Dear Thought Leader,
Wow! What a week it's been. TGIF! It so happens to be Friday the 13th and coincidentally our 13th anniversary of producing the MindShare Report! I'm optimistic that this will be a much better day than yesterday!
One could not have written a script for what unfolded this past week, testing our resiliency and positivity for sure. I love Mark Prensky's image in my quote of the week and feel free to share it! "Please all, Keep Calm and Go Virtual."
To say this week has provided 'teachable moments' is a massive understatement.
While the impact of COVID-19 continues to unfold, as leaders, we must strive to maintain some normalcy for ourselves and people around us and reassure them that this too shall pass.
I'm calling on EdTech solution providers to be generous (as some have) and offer their online platforms at no cost during this global disruption.
I'm going to keep this issue brief and focused on helpful news and information related to safety and online learning opportunities that will support the continuation of learning beyond school.
Here's an excellent resource from UNESCO Distance learning solutions to mitigate COVID-19 school closures.
Special thanks to online learning expert, Dr. Ron Owston, Dean Emeritus, York University, Faculty of Education for his recent exclusive podcast on how to infuse online learning in challenging times. Checkout curated content from around the world sharing online learning initiatives and which companies are offering FREE resources as well as a number of conferences that have pivoted from f2f to online.
As you prepare for the weekend, it perhaps provides an opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends and avoid as much as possible all the negative news that is fueling much of the panic amongst people.
We are especially grateful during these challenging times for the valued support of our sponsors, partners and advisory board members, and our team, who inspire excellence in everything we do and help make this report possible.
Wishing you and your family a safe and healthy weekend. Here's to 2020 being kinder and gentler in the coming weeks! |

Despite the doom and gloom of the Corona Virus, we are honoured to have something to celebrate! This issue marks our 13th Anniversary MindShare Learning Report Special Edition issue. Inspired by my Masters in EdTech at Pepperdine University, I was frustrated by the lack of research and news about EdTech in Canada. So I decided to solve my perceived problem of a need for a new publication and born was the MindShare Report! Innovation is about solving problems and doing things better! I did my homework and had a hunch. or gut feeling about that my concept report would be embraced and after doing my research, or 'homework' as Dr. Bryce Taylor a former professor of mine would say.
Here we are 13 years later and we're still publishing and podcasting as super early adopters. The key to our continued existence is to stay relevant and connected to your audience as well as maintaining a 'growth mindset.'
Now that I'm operating a coworking space, (MindShare Workspace), I definitely attribute part of the inspiration to the beauty of the Pepperdine campus (see pic below) that definitely spurred my creativity, innovation and problem solving skills!
